What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a silicate mineral commonly found in buildings constructed before 1980. It was a popular construction material during the 20th century due to its widespread availability, affordability, and fire resistance. The asbestos testing process
How is asbestos testing performed? In order to test for asbestos, a material must be examined and analyzed using approved scientific methods.
Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) is the most frequently used technique for building materials. For airborne asbestos, Phase Contract Microscopy (PCM) is widely used to measure fiber concentrations that can indicate that asbestos is present in air samples, but if the fibers are too small to identify using PCM, then Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) is used.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines an asbestos-containing material as a material that contains more than one percent asbestos fibers.
Asbestos abatement project design
In addition to testing for asbestos, we also construct asbestos abatement project designs. A comprehensive design package consists of a technical specification with drawings and related contract documents.
