Synertech's area of discipline focuses on asbestos management, lead testing services, indoor air quality evaluations with an emphasis on mold testing and consulting services.  Our client base consists mostly of public service organizations such as school districts, universities, public housing authorities, municipal government agencies, and hospitals. We have also provided services to the private sector, typically engaged by large construction management firms and multi disciplined engineers.

Asbestos

 

Our comprehensive asbestos management services consist of inspection, design and air monitoring.  Typically, a physical inspection is initiated to determine the presence and type of asbestos containing material.  Once categorized and quantified an abatement design is prepared. A comprehensive design package consists of a technical specification with drawings and related contract documents.  In addition, our design team conducts pre-bid and pre-construction meetings with contractors and oversees the bidding process.  Once abatement is initiated, our licensed air monitoring technicians perform air monitoring and quality control during the entire remediation sequence.  Post abatement testing and inspection followed by a comprehensive final report is prepared once all removal is completed.

Lead


The main focus of our lead based paint management plan is to provide comprehensive risk assessments to identify the existence, severity, and source of a lead based paint hazard and recommend an appropriate hazard control measure.  A major component of this assessment, our ability to diagnose the presence of lead, is accomplished with state-of-the-art X-Ray Fluorescent instrumentation.  Once lead hazards are identified our design department can prepare an abatement specification and related contract documents.  Once an abatement contractor is selected, our technical staff can provide on-site inspection and monitoring. 
 

Drinking water represents another possible means of lead exposure.  Lead from drinking water pipes, cooler components and solder may leach into water and pose a health risk.  Our testing program consists of identifying potential problems by performing an initial building plumbing profile followed by a prioritization of sample sites.  Generally, testing will be conducted at those outlets that are most likely to have contamination i.e. areas where plumbing is used to ground electrical circuits or where water is found to have a low pH and alkalinity or, in the case of water coolers, those identified by EPA as having lead lined storage tanks or lead parts.

Indoor Air Quality
 

Acute health and comfort effects apparently linked to time spent in an indoor environment can be associated with a "sick building" or a "building related illness."  Our industrial hygienists can perform an indoor air quality (IAQ) profile that describes the features of a building's structure, function, and occupancy.  This is followed by a walkthrough to assess current IAQ situations where attention is paid to IAQ problem indicators such as odors, presence of toxic substances, poorly maintained equipment, etc.  In addition, building occupant interviews are conducted and possible pollutant pathways are identified.  On-site measurements of temperature, relative humidity, and airflow are also collected.  This data will assist us in determining if the problem is based on a chemical, biological, or mechanical situation.  From this point our Industrial Hygienists will prepare a report of findings and recommendations for possible air testing and/or corrective action.

Mold Testing and Consulting 

 

 The growth of "toxic mold" is becoming a problem of monumental proportion.  Mold cannot be eliminated, but there are steps that can be taken to minimize the dangers of indoor mold growth.  Our inspection procedures focus on identifying mold and, just as importantly, identifying the moisture intrusion that is promoting mold growth. Our design professionals then develop a plan to correct or eliminate the water and then focus on the properly removing the mold. Mold growth removal is then performed under controlled conditions to prevent the spreading of spores.  Work areas are encapsulated with industry standard fungicides and building materials that were affected with mold growth are removed and replaced.  Each individual project has a Scope of Work prepared in accordance to the guidelines established by the EPA � "Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings," and the New York City Department of Health - "Guidelines on Assessment and Remediation of Fungi in Indoor Environments."
